There was a meme going around on Facebook a few months ago about when something unexpected in life happens, just yell "Plot Twist!" and go on with life. The plot twisting around here the last two weeks can stop anytime now because frankly, I'm over it.
Let's start with the fact that we bought a house. It's a three bedroom, single floor townhouse about 20 minutes east of where we were living. We've been in the house for two months now and are almost settled in. Almost. There are still bins in the extra bedrooms I'm not quite sure what to do with and we have already replaced the refrigerator and dish washer, but otherwise we're settling in to being homeowners o.k. We still have some work to do like painting and redoing the master bedroom (I don't even want to get in to the questionable decorating choices of the previous owner).
Right before we moved I broke my foot. Let's just say a game of tennis got a little too competitive and I wound up in a walking boot for two weeks. Definitely made life interesting with the move and then a wedding we went to right after. But that is all healed and I'm trying to get back to wearing heels and playing tennis again. Not necessarily at the same time.
The last week has probably been the worst part of this whole "Plot Twist".
I had a miscarriage.
There, I said it. I was pregnant and now I'm not. I found out about the pregnancy the day before we moved in August. I was happy, scared and not quite sure how to handle it. Will I think was terrified. We had been trying, so it wasn't too much of a shock, but still, it was a shock! The next weeks after I was tired a lot, Got nauseous when I didn't eat on a schedule and Tried to eat more healthy. As far as I knew, everything was going great. I had an ultrasound scheduled for Oct 3rd where we would hear the heart beat for the first time and get a better idea of a due date.
Apparently my body had other ideas.
Two Saturdays ago I started spotting. I wasn't concerned at first because my OB said that was normal in the first trimester. Then Monday morning I woke up and the spotting was red. And there was a clot. I called off work and went in to my doctor as soon as they could fit me in. She did blood work and told me after the exam I was still physically where I should be. If the bleeding worsened or I had cramps I was to go to the ER. Things didn't get bad until the day of my original appointment. My OB did an ultrasound in office but wasn't happy with it so she sent me for a more extensive one at an imaging place. By this time I had started cramping. In my head, I knew what was going on.
We were losing the pregnancy.
And that was what my OB confirmed when she called me that night.
I was devastated. I'm not getting any younger (hello 38, I see you peaking around the corner). And I was just getting used to the idea that we were going to be parents. And then life had other plans. I'm almost done with the process of my body cleaning itself out, so I won't need to have a D&C. I'm just very emotional. And angry. And frustrated. And sad when I see friends who are pregnant or just had a child. We'll try again, but I know the clock is ticking.
On the same day the miscarriage was confirmed, I found out my godfather, Uncle Barry, had died. He had either a stroke or massive heart attack and passed away almost instantly. He was a big part of my life. My dad's best friend. I have so many good memories of Christmas parties and birthdays, get togethers at his house. We said good bye to him at a very nice service last Tuesday. If there is any comfort in losing him, it's that he is now reunited with his wife, Aunt Julie who died 13 years ago from cancer.
And as the saying goes, bad things happen in threes. My grandma Verna, at the age of 91, went to heaven on Thursday. She had been declining in health and when she was moved to a nursing home that, at least from what my mom told me, brought her life to an end. I'm sad because she was a great
lady who had a goofy sense of humor and loved her family. Her dementia and eventual Alzheimer's stole her memories and knowing her family. So in the end, she's at least whole again. I will miss her so, so much. We are holding a service on Tuesday to say good bye. I'm choosing to share the good memories, which I hope is how people will remember her.
So yeah, it's been quite a few months of up and down. There has been so much down though, we can only go up. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Summa summa summertime
How in the name of Francis did it suddenly become June? And not just " oh look, it's June 3rd!" But more like "Holy crap, it's June 29th" June. Sweet mercy this year is going too fast.
We've been busy with work and more fun things like New Kids On The Block/Boys II Men/98* concerts, D.C. United game with my partner in crime and trips to the farm. There was a baby shower and bridal shower or two in there too. And now that I think about it, we've hardly been home an entire weekend since April. No wonder I'm enjoying my night n the couch in my pj's.
Oh, and someone, WILL, turned 30 almost two weeks ago. We had a quiet little party that included drinks with friends and him getting his picture taken with Brooke Hogan. Happy birthday, baby! I got you a washed up reality tv star!

There has been movement on the house front too. I don't want to get too much in to it because I'm superstitious like that, but we've gotten past the inspection and we're still on the right track and if everything keeps going the way it is, we will be moving in August. I'm both excited and terrified at the same time. Thank goodness for vodka! Of course, we scheduled our settlement date for the day before we head out for vacation. Because, packing for a week away at the beach isn't enough right before we leave.
Work has been...crazy. I don't want to talk much about it in here, but the last couple of weeks have been so stressful that I've had stomach issues because of it. I'll be glad when my one boss starts her new position and stops giving me projects that I have no time to do. That's about 90% of the issue. This last week was so bad I came home and either cried or drank. And some nights I did both.
Unfortunately, I've been neglecting my gym time, which is no bueno. That needs to change and right quick.
Otherwise, life is moving along. We're spending the 4th with some of Will's friends that live in the city (Philly) and are hosting a rooftop party. I have the feeling it will be a great time since we always have a good time with this crowd. I'll be traveling back to York in 2 weeks for some family time and the annual O's game with Abby. Have to add another floppy hat to the collection. It's not summer without a new floppy hat!
Oh, and in case anyone is still reading this, I'm now on Instagram as, you guessed it, agategoddess.

Frayed
I'm starting to get to the end of my rope. So close to the end that I can see the frayed ends two feet in front of me. And they aren't holding together no matter what I do.
Today I'm home. Again. My car has decided that replacing plugs, wires and coils wasn't enough so it demanded, by way of not starting this morning, that more be done. I have no idea what else could be done. Of course it wouldn't give the guys at the garage a demonstration of the issue. I'm REALLY hoping it isn't anything major because right now would be the absolute worst time for my car to crap out. I'm so alternately ticked off and frustrated that I sat and cried for a good 20 minutes after I got home from the garage.
We just don't need this right now. Not with the house search still going on. And the chunk of money we just dropped on Will's car. And so many other things we are trying to pay off.
Heaven only knows what happens next. The garage wants to keep the car overnight since they can't seem to figure out what's wrong. That means another sick day blown to hell tomorrow.
Things have to get better soon. They just have to.

Stay at home for a day
I'm stuck at home today.
My usually reliable car decided to throw a tantrum over the weekend, only starting when it felt like it. Hubby had me take it to our garage this morning and since they couldn't figure out the problem right away (battery was fine), one of the guys drove me home. That's the kind of place they are. Now I'm just waiting to hear back as to what's causing the issue.
This means another personal day gone. I'm down to just 1/2 a personal for the rest of the year. December is REALLY going to suck.
On a completely unrelated note, daytime tv sucks. Right now I'm switching between "Legally Blonde" and "The Rock". Yeah, it's that bad. And the cats aren't great conversationalists, so, it's that or nothing.
Speaking of cats, let me introduce Chumley, our other cat in residence.

Speaking of cats, let me introduce Chumley, our other cat in residence.
He came home about 9 months after we brought home Katie. We had been talking about getting a second cat to keep her company, but had never really made a decision on if we wanted to or not, then Hubby went for a weekend visit with his grandparents. He paid a visit to the same humane society where we found Katie, saw this serious looking guy in one of the crates and that was it. I had a phone call at work to ask if it was ok, his adoption fee was only $20 because he was 9. There wasn't much info on his back story, but how could anyone say no to such a handsome guy? And my husband was pretty persuasive too.
So, Chumley came home. It took a good month before Katie realized this new guy wasn't leaving. There was a lot of hissing and growling. And then we left them alone over Christmas and came home to find them laying next to each other on the bed.
But I digress. A few months after Chumley came home, we noticed he was getting skinny. Too skinny for the amount of food he was eating on a daily basis. And he was restless. And puking more than a normal cat should. We took him to the vet and found out that he had a slight heart murmur (common in older cats) and was suffering from in diagnosed hyperthyroidism. Poor guys metabolism was so fast he was starving even though he was eating so much we were filling the food dish three times a day. Chum was immediately put on medicine, which we now give him twice a day by rubbing it on his ear (much easier than trying to get a pill in to him), and started putting on weight right away. Today he's a goofy, active, normal cat who likes to lay in my lap, go for walks in his harness and leash and chases Katie just to reminder her she's not totally in charge around here. Our Chummy boy was definitely a great addition to our family.
