You want to know what boredom is? Boredom is being forced to sit at work on a day when everyone else in the free world has OFF and the phone is not ringing, and you have absolutely positively nothing to do! AAAAUUUGGGHHH! I am reduced to reading a month old copy of Better Homes and Gardens for entertainment. I was here at 6:30 this morning and I can not leave until 5 because my co worker was ill and needed to go home. Sigh. Can I say it one more time? I hate this place.
Had a very good 4th. Since roomate Marti is out of town I managed to take over the washer and dryer yesterday and do some much needed laundry. Bob and I dragged ourselves outside for about an hour to play some tennis. Let me just tell you, I doubt I'll be getting an invitation to Wimbledon any time soon. Don't really get into the tournament all that much until the last week or so. I love to get up and watch Breakfast at Wimbledon over the weekend. Makes me fell like I actually know something about the game of tennis. But I digress. After our tennis time we went to the pool at my apartment complex. Felt very good to be there, except for the many screaming kids. Could have done with out that. Once I got home and took a shower we went to Bob's place and cooked out with his mom. The usual 4th of July vitals, corn on the cob, hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and macaroni salad. We also hit the mini golf for a very competative round of golf. I lost which means I owe a bag of popcorn and a soda tonight. By the time we finished the game it was time for the fireworks to start so we headed into town and staked out a half decent spot not too far from the fairgrounds. All in all it was a pretty nice day.
Just noticed this on the ESPN website. The passing of a legend. Soon all of the greats will be gone and all we will have left are the stories. I read a piece about Mr. Williams in a book I keep in my desk drawer The Best American Sports Writing of the Century. The book was originally purchased to give me something to do on one of my trips to Boston via train. It is a very good bit of writing. I wish I could remember who wrote that piece. Just another sign that I'm getting older. My memory is starting to go.
Salem is now firmly planted at Joan's house. She came over with her daughter Sarah on Tuesday night and took him away. Poor kitty. We had to coral him into the kitty carrier and when Joan got him into the car he immediately started to meow and cry. Nearly ripped my heart out. Luckily I was able to keep myself cheerful and under control until they left. Then I shut the door and cried. I'm such a sap. Bob called and we rented Vanilla Sky. O.k. movie, Tom Cruise was damn hot. Oh baby.
Blah. Will this freaking day ever end?! I need a drink.
