There are some Fourth of July's that stick out in my head, some that were so freaking boring I have conveniently chosen to forget. This year's will be added to the area of my brain to remember. Bob, Anne and I arrived at the cabin (a.k.a. "The Rice Paddy") around 10 a.m. Leslie still wasn't up yet so we had a nice visit with her parents. I'm lucky in that not only am I still friends with my high school buds, but I still consider their parents to be like my own. Lol, sometimes I wish they were my own. Once Les was up and moving we decided to venture to Laurel Lake and hike to the top of Pole's Steeple. The brochure said it was a 1/2 mi hike. No problem, right? Uh, no. Being so close to my alma mater I had been to the lake and done the hike before, granted it was over five years ago, but I had conquered it before. Unfortunately, I had also forgotten that the hike was 1/2 mile...straight up. We persevered however and the view from the top was definitely rewarding. Hopefully my pictures turned out o.k. and I'll be able to get them posted. That night we watched fireworks in Chambersburg. I always feel like a little kid again when I'm watching the explosions, it was one of my favorite parts of summer. There is almost nothing better than the feeling of laying in the grass on a summer night watching the technicolor explosions. Ahhhh.
Anne had to leave early on Saturday for a family event back home so we hit the very cold spring fed pool at Caledonia for a few hours before she left. Leslie and Bob played a round of golf which I opted out of (lack of patience and overcompetativeness do not make me a good candidate for this sport). Instead, I read part of a new book (Easy by Emma Gold), drank some wine and took a very nice nap. If this weekend was anymore relaxing I think I would have been in a coma. After the duffers returned and made themselves presentable we went out for dinner, drank too much, played some good old fashioned A**hole and passed out by 2 a.m. Good times, good times.
Sunday the remaining three of us hit the pool, finished up what food was left and headed for home around 4. Reluctantly headed for home I might add. The cabin is such a wonderful place. I never thought it was possible but everytime we go there my friends and I get a little closer. After over 15 years of friendship you would think we knew everything there was to know about each other. Not true. They are my rock, my slap of reality, my official cheerleaders and a group of people I couldn't live without. I used to say this group of people were like my family. Nah, they are my family.
A little later... Oh boy. The new guy started today...things just got more interesting visually around here. Slightly younger, o.k. a lot younger (just graduated from college), but tall, dark hair, dark eyes and very hot. Woo-hoo!
Then again with my luck, he's either married (although I saw no ring), engaged, about to be engaged or gay. Wouldn't suprise me one bit since 99.5% of the men I've been meeting lately fit one of those categories. Sigh. I guess I'll just have to enjoy the view as he walks by my desk to get to the copy machine.
The things I put up with at my job *grin*
