Tomorrow I leave for the beach...tomorrow I leave for the beach...that was my mantra all day. Nasty phone call from a customer? Tomorrow I leave for the beach. Something is not shipping on time? Tomorrow I leave for the beach. Can't figure out how to fix the copy machine? Tomorrow I leave for the beach. Can you tell I'm excited. Ahhhh, three days of sitting on the beach, sleeping in late and not having to deal with my parents or sister. Paradise I tell you. I won't totally be alone. Chet and Kathy will be there. They are friends of my parents. I've known them since I was a wee babe. Their sons are like brothers to me and Chet and Kathy might as well be my parents. We'll do dinner together when I get down there and hit the beach together but beyond that I'm pretty much on my own. Which is fine with me. Granted, it would be more fun to have a significant other with me but I've become pretty self sufficient (ie my mini vaca to Cooperstown last year). I'll probably just go wherever the wind takes me.
My friend Chad has had some pretty interesting things to say on his blog. We usually agree politically but I do want to add something to his entry yesterday about California's referendum and recall. The recall and referendum gained popularity in the beginning of the 1900's when a small group of reformers attempted to get rid of the party in power which was a puppet of the SP Railroad. The SP had a political stranglehold on the state, running the state government from the smallest towns to the highest ranking official in Sacramento (the capital of California). The intention was to use the recall to get as many of the corrupt politicians already in office under the SP's influence out and replace them with supposedly moral politicians (which is the biggest example of an oxymoron ever). Hiram Johnson, elected in 1910, is considered the first beneficiary of the recall. That said, I agree with the recall. It's an important addition to the original system of checks and balances. The recall allows the voter to remove from office someone who may have looked good as a candidate (don't they all?) then did a total 180 once in office not holding to campaign promises.
O.k., history lesson for today over. God I love this stuff.
There is another opening here at job #2. When my friend Dan left, he created an opening in the Feature section for an editor of the Friday Section (what's going on for the weekend). It was announced today our entertainment reporter (and my friend too) Pete is moving into Dan's position. That leave's the entertainment reporter position up for grabs. If I had more confidence in myself and my writing I'd apply for it. A person can only take so many rejections before they start getting into the why bother mindset. Kind of like my dating life, or lack there of.
The hottie newbie at job #1 is going to have to stop wearing Aqua Di Gio to work. That stuff drives me nuts (in a very good way) and today he walked over to my desk to ask me a question smelling all good...nearly lost my balance. Wow. This could lead to trouble.
Have a good week kiddies. I'm off for the next few days so don't look for any new posts until Sunday.
