I knew it was going to be a good weekend when as I was tooling down the highway, the sun shining and the wind in my hair I heard the new U2 song "Vertigo" Friday evening. Totally rockin tune, I might add. As I made my way to the greater Shippensburg metropolitan area (yeah, because Ship is as metropolitan as Yoe) I could feel all of my tension and problems slipping right out of Sammy's windows.
By about 5:30 I was back on my old stomping grounds for the band/alumni picnic. Free food and some good times reminiscing with old friends made for an enjoyable dinner. After saying my good byes and making promises to keep in touch I made my way toward my friend Heather's house in Chambersburg. By the time I had arrived her sisters were there too so we quickly got ready for a night on the town, boobie shirts and all, and headed out for a little bar tour through Shippensburg.
And what a bar tour it was.
I remember hitting Orky's, then Nicky's (now Market Cross Pub), then Maxies...and this is where things get a little fuzzy. From Maxies I think we ran in to a new place called Knute's then got the car and finished the night at Wibs. Oh such a good time. Too good in fact. But I loved every minute of it. Heather is one cool chica and her sisters and room mate were great fun to party with. Even better, holy ego boost batman! I have never been hit on so much in my life. Note to self: buy more boobie shirts. By college guys mind you, not old alums like myself back trying to relive their glory days. Oh no. I was a little put off at first but then thought, what the hell, you only live once. I was dancing with them, flirting with them and heck, even got a little mouth action in the middle of Sheetz at 2:30 a.m. Made me feel like I've still got it. Or something close to it.
We finally made it back to Heather's house around 3ish, I think I remember seeing 3:45 on my cell phone before finally passing out with a big smile on my face. Definitely a good night.
Saturday was a lot tamer. The group headed out for the football game of which we actually watched about one quarter of. Wasn't bad from what I saw. Hard to believe the team is undefeated. We left the game after meeting up with Chad and Jen, Jason and Laura and a few other old/new friends to make our way to the President's dinner on the front lawn of his house. By the way Chad, I'll never be able to look at the balcony of Martin House again. Again we returned to Heather's house, made ourselves presentable and headed out for the evening. Since I drove I didn't drink very much. That and I was still recovering from the night before. We bar toured again, making sure to avoid Wibs which was a madhouse. Instead we got our dance itch scratched at Hot Point Inn (which might I add, did not have a dance floor during my days there). Before we knew it las call was being heard over the speakers and we were getting pushed out the door. Another Sheetz stop later and we were home, laughing our patooties off and reminiscing about old times, new times and hopefully times to be had.
Since I worked at the Lobster yesterday I was up and out the door by noon. The weekend left me with such a good feeling of friends and how lucky I am that it carried over to today. I've been walking around with a big smile on my face all day. Heh. It was definitely a great way to spend my weekend. Can't wait for next year!
