Normally I don't pay attention to what's going on in my rear view mirror. Especially in the morning when I'm just trying to stay warm in 12* weather and praying my car's heater starts working a little faster.
My normal morning route to the full-time takes me through the downtown area (which would be laughable to anyone who has 1) ever been here and 2) anyone who lives in a major metro area). Plenty of lights but it's faster than the so called "Bypass" just north of town. Anyway, as I was hitting the last leg of my trip I happened to glance in the rear view and noticed the tell tale signs of the Fuzz right behind me.
Being the paranoid Polly I am, I immediately slowed my speed and said a quick prayer that he wouldn't notice I'm awfully close on the inspection and registration deadlines for Sammy. As we were pulling close to an intersection his siren went off once, and my heart jumped into my throat. The first thing I did was check the mirror.
No lights.
I pulled over anyway, thinking maybe he was going to give me a warning about something. Or maybe he just received a call and needed to take off at a high rate of speed. Nope. I rolled down my window as he pulled alongside.
"Sorry! I hit the button by accident."
"Uh, o.k. thanks!" As I clutched my chest trying to keep my heart from leaping out.
"Sorry again, have a nice day ma'am."
"Sure."
And off he went. After my blood pressure dropped about 80 points and I could breathe again, I continued on my merry way as well.
P.S. - Looks like I'm going to hit 10,000 today! Wow. Anyway, if you happen to be the lucky number email me so you can be pointed out, laughed at...uh, I mean recognized and applauded. Yeah, that's what I meant.
