Crazy man, just crazy
Life has a strange way of kicking you in the pants and saying "Helllooooooo, are you paying attention? Here's the opportunity you've been looking for!"
Last night, toward the end of my shift at the Lobster, two of my old co-worker buddies from the favorite former job came in. I was more than happy to see them after the night I had. Seeing as they were my last table, I took the time to sit down and catch up with them. Get the office gossip, if you will.
That was when one of them mentioned a full time position was open. A full time position doing pretty much what I had been doing before. Only full time. Did I mention it was FULL TIME?!
I had applied for similar positions before.
The usual responses ranged from not enough experience (early on in my tenure) to we've already filled it to we'll discuss it. It got to be very frustrating because writing at a newspaper is what I want to do. If I can do it where I started seven years ago, then that would be wonderful! But right now, writing is the only thing I'm sure of in my life. I miss it. Terribley.
I even miss those stupid weather stories I used to do when there was nothing else to do.
The girls encouraged me to apply for it. They both know my work, they both are certain I can handle it. Sure, I don't have the J-school degree but jeez, experience has to count for something. Right?
Sometime this morning I'm going to try and get in touch with one of the editors I was friendly with and feel them out a little bit. Maybe get them on my side a little.
No harm ever came from trying, right?
