Return of the Slip N' Slide
The good vibe of Friday continued into the weekend.
Saturday was quite literally dead at work so after being sent home early, friend James and I headed for the Greek Food Festival at one of the local churches. We enjoyed home made gyro's and baklava, the greek music wafting through the air and the opportunity to mock most of the people who walked in the door. All the while attempting to avoid those we had graduated from high school with. All in all, it made for a good afternoon.
Sunday was even better. Even though I worked most of the afternoon, I was still home in time for the best part of my weekend.
The Slip N' Slide.
One of the neighbor kids was in the process of dragging his out when I saw it. Immediately I was transported back to my own days of playing on one with my friends in the neighborhood. While the name of the owner escapes me, we always had that thing in full swing when the temperatures soared. Noting says summer more than running and taking a flying leap onto a wet piece of plastic.
While I was outside watering the plants, I struck up a conversation with the kiddo and his mom. Very nice people. They actually live across the street and had just moved in about 3 or 4 months ago. On a whim I asked if I could take a run at the Slip N' Slide. The kiddo was all for it, while his mother, well she just smiled and gave me a look that translated into shouldn't someone your age act more like your age?
With the o.k. I went for it. Full tilt, head on, sliding fun. It lasted all of 15 seconds and I've got the bruises on my knees to prove it.
After I dragged myself up I told my new friends thanks and headed back to my own house.
Summer has officially arrived.
