World Cup starts tomorrow. Or more accurately today if you happen to be in South Korea or Japan. I honestly think the U.S. has a good enough team to make it out of the first round, which is really a major improvement over the national team's past performances (not counting '94). God only knows they can not do any worse than the horrendous performance of '98 in France. Ugh. Talk about embarrassing! At least the women's national team has a winning tradition. Curious, why is it that the women's team has done so much better than the men's? My theory is that the women have more support because of their winning ways. Stay with me on this, soccer is not a popular sport in this country. Hey, I admit it. I know it barely registers on people's sports radar. Americans like sports that we are good at ie: baseball, football, hockey. So because the women continue to do so well, there is more support on the home front when they go to international tournaments and participate in the women's World Cup.
See what I'm trying to say?
Oh never mind, just me spouting off after too much coffee....which I have just managed to spill all over my desk. Crap. I've got to go.
