Grrrr...I hate my job. I hate my job and, oh yeah, did I mention I hate my job? Ugh. What a horrible morning. Phone call after phone call from complaining pain in the butt customers or demanding sales reps. Luckily I had my October vacation approved. Woo-hoo. At this rate, I'll need it.

In fact, I declare tonight retail therapy night. My bank account may shreik in terror at the thought but I need it damn it. O.k., I don't need it. It just makes me feel good. I do need a bridal shower gift for tomorrow too. So there's my excuse.

How about that blackout? I tried to text message Leslie last night but she didn't get back to me. Either she's already at the cabin for her weekend or she didn't find the message funny and is ignoring me. Lol. Doesn't matter. I'll be seing her Wednesday night when we go to the Oriole's game. I'm not sure how I would have handled the blackout. When I was in my freshman year of college we had at least two major snowstorms that kept us in rolling blackouts and brownouts for a few weeks. I didn't mind since that also meant no classes. Now though, I don't think I'd panic but if it lasted too long I think I might go a little stir crazy. Thank God for books. This loss of electricity reminded me of what happened in 1977 (not that I would remember):

MEMORIES OF ’77
Especially in New York, where police were nervously gearing up for nightfall, the sudden loss of power revived memories of the ruinous blackout of 1977.
On July 10 that year, power officials guaranteed Congress that another power failure like the 1965 blackout would never occur again. Three days later, the lights went off a little before 9:30 p.m. and stayed off all night — 13 hours in all.
More than 3,700 people were arrested in looting across several neighborhoods. More than 1,000 fires were set, and estimates of the damage ranged from $61 million to more than $300 million.

I also recall reading somewhere there was a significant increase in births exactly nine months after the 1977 blackout. Wonder how many "blackout babies" will make an appearance this time around?
