With friends like these...
Senior year of college I got lucky. Not that kind of lucky you perverts, o.k., I did get that kind of lucky too but that's another story for never.
But I digress.
Because of my loan situation I was forced to live on campus. My senior year I moved into one of the on campus apartments with five other girls. At first I was a little leary about it. I only really knew one, my previous room mate from the year before. One girl I had hung out and partied with through band season. The rest, well, we were definitely a hodge podge of personalities to say the least.
What could have been a very volital situation turned into probably the most fun year of my college career. I never laughed so much in my whole life. Sure, we got on each other's nerves. You can't throw six people into a small box, mix with alcohol occasionally and not have some small explosions every now and then but over the course of the year most of us (five of us at least) became very good friends.
Unfortunately I graduated before the other girls. We have half heartedly kept in touch over the years and with the exception of the Former Room Mate I have only seen the other girls a handful of times. Until last night.
We all got together for a, ahem, "party". There were other people there but after everyone else left we all stayed around and talked. It was like we were never apart. Like it hasn't been eight years since we lived together. My stomach stil hurts this morning from all of the laughing.
We all had such a good time that before we all headed our seperate ways for the night we planned ahead more "girls nights" and "pool days" (our hostess, a former college room mate, has a gorgeous home with an amazing pool in the backyard) for the summer.
Hellloooo personal days.
It was, just, well, it was what I needed. A night out with the girls. It was refreshing to be hanging out with people who were my age. Who actually were not still forced to hop rides from Mom & Dad at the end of the 90's. Who actually remember the 90's.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my hanging out time with the girls from work but they are at a totally different place than I am. They're younger. Some have kids. Most are married. Last night for once, I was not the odd one out. There were actually three others sans boyfriend/husband/fiance.
Who knew? There really are other singletons out there? I was beginning to think I was the only one.
