Yeah, like it really helped.

I can't exactly say I was surprised by this piece of news that hit my cellphone last night.

Room mate #1, he of the O's season tickets, sent me a text while I was at indoor practice. There had been some speculation amongst the other denizens of section 84 (not 82, that's to the right) about Mr. Gibbons' increasing muscle size. Sure it was possible that he had been hitting the weights a little more and improving through natural methods. But seriously, the change he went through from the 2005 to the 2006 season?! Almost like a different player was out there.

Except for his performance on the field.

That's the frustrating part in all of this. Not only did he do something he knew was against the rules, but for the love of Abner Doubleday, it did not one iota of good in the Orioles seasons. Not that I'm condoning what Gibbons did by any stretch of the imagination, he broke the rules intentionally, he should be punished...but why couldn't the Birds at least have gotten a stinking winning season out of it?

So the suffering continues. Hope however does spring eternal on opening day.

How many more days until opening day?

I must say, I do appreciate the fact he actually took responsibility for his actions and did not try to claim he was unaware of what he was doing. The initial decision was idiotic, but at least he took the high road, took responsibility and hopefully, will make a difference this year.

Man...I am the eternal sucker!
