Halloween is my second favorite holiday of the year. Behind St. Patrick's day of course. When you think about it, it makes sense considering both holidays (like myself) have deep roots in Ireland. Here is a nifty site I found that explains Samhain (sow-in or sow-een) and it's origins. My mother's side of the family is very Irish in origin and we would combine both our Halloween celebration with my Great-Grandmother's birthday (Oct. 30). She's been gone four years now but we still get together around her birthday. It's one of those traditions in my family that no one wants to give up. I still have a jack 'o Lantern to carve and some goodies to make but that will be the extent of my celebration this year.
Unfortunately I will be working at job #2 this year on Halloween night. I usually don't like to work then but we were crunched for people and my editor was begging so I caved. I'm such a sucker. I have already warned him that I'm still going to dress up. Not sure as what yet...better get on that, huh? According to Bob I don't say no enough. He told me that today when I backed out of plans we made to go to the movies Wednesday night. I had forgotten I had a meeting for the 2004 elections at job #2. Sigh. I guess I'll see him again on Saturday night after he gets off work. Sigh. It's a good thing we aren't really in a relationship because I don't think we'd get anything accomplished if you catch my drift.
Had some very disturbing news about my god-sister (my godparents daughter) and her fiance. My mom said something shady is going on, in that there have been allegations of physical type abuse. She is having a summit about it with two other ladies that are part of the circle of friends my parents have. Aunt Cathy and Aunt Shelby. Shelby really is my go-sister's aunt (her father and Aunt Shelby's husband are brothers) and Aunt Cathy is, well, Aunt Cathy. I hope they figure out what's going on and it is not what they think it is because let me tell you, if it is, that boy is going to have more to worry about than dealing with my mom and her friends. He'll have half of the county after him. Sad, huh? The couple are supposed to be getting married in May. See why I'm still single, less mess. Less to deal with.
Yeah, at least that's what I keep telling myself.
