Police Follow Trail Of Donuts To Stolen Truck

POSTED: 12:43 pm EST December 3, 2004

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Say what you want about cops and doughnuts, but this story has a different twist.

Police in Harrisburg followed a trail of doughnuts to find a stolen Krispy Kreme delivery truck.

Tim Trostle had stopped at a Swatara Township convenience store about 12:45 a.m. Thursday to make a delivery. He left the engine on his truck running and someone drove off with the truck.

Since Trostle had left the back doors open, though, police were able to follow a trail of doughnuts.

Police in nearby Susquehanna Township found the truck near a downtown bar.

No arrests have been made and the truck has been returned to the company.

Swatara Township Sgt. Robert Simmonds said he saw his officers eating Krispy Kremes afterward -- but he said they weren't the evidence from the truck.
