Cuptown PA

There aren't many perks to living in this corner of Pennsyltucky. We're right smack dab in the middle of Amish Country. The roads pretty much suck (constantly heard around here is "God damn PennDot"). And while the music scene is improving, you've got to travel a bit to hear anyone decent.

But when it comes to sports? Well, this place is freaking awesome.

This city is right in the middle of all things Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Not only that, we have a freaking awesome AHL (American Hockey League, one of the feeders to the NHL) team right in our own backyard. The Hershey Bears.

Being a hockey player myself I'm pretty much hooked, even if they are affiliated with the Washington Caps (still bitter about the change from my beloved Colorado Av's). To slightly sweeten the deal, the company I work for has a box suite at the arena where they play. Heaven. It's complete and utter heaven to watch a game from the suite what with free yummies, free beer and the best seats in the house, how could it not be?

Last night the Bears won the Calder Cup, which is the AHL version of the Stanley Cup. We were lucky enough to get seats to Game 4 on Sunday when the Bears tied the series at 2-2. The place was wild! If only I could have been there last night. The Giant Arena was open (and free) for anyone who wanted to watch the game in Milwaukee. But unfortunately, I pretended to be a responsible adult last night and called it an early evening. Where that came from, I have no idea.

So congratulations Hershey Bears! You had an awesome season I was lucky to witness and here's to another Calder Cup banner hanging from the ceiling!
